Here’s how SmartMed makes a difference
MAC regions continuously update and revise their policies, often quarterly, which makes it extremely challenging for providers to stay current. SmartMed has perfected a reproducible solution for staying current with regulatory and CMS changes, along with reimbursements, to ensure our customers and their patients receive the most current solutions and optimal reimbursements.
SmartMed Today’s Approach
-
Specific to your MAC region, reimbursement changes for grafts and broader regulatory shifts regarding skin substitutes can occur quarterly. This variability indicates that the reimbursement for a specific graft may change significantly from quarter to quarter. These unpredictable changes emphasize the importance of collaboration between your practice and our fully managed services. We will help introduce or remove grafts as necessary to optimize quarterly reimbursement and compliance for your practice.
-
Quality/Compliance: We have a robust quality, compliance, and safety department.
Billing: We have an experienced billing department which enables us to offer the following:
In-house insurance verifications.
Assistance with appeals or denials,
Practice audits: We can offer practice audits for using skin substitutes to help our provider partners minimize risk by ensuring compliant documentation.
We provide insurance to protect against potential future clawbacks.
SmartMed Today’s Process
-
Before we begin servicing a clinic, a simple document reviewing the main points of the contract and the terms of the agreement must be executed.
-
A call between the clinic’s billing department and ours to review any frequently asked questions.
-
Once a provider has identified a patient, they will complete a one-page insurance verification form and fax/email it to us so we can verify the patient's benefits.
We will provide the clinic with a benefit summary within 24 hours, outlining exactly how the patient's insurance will reimburse the graft.
-
Upon receiving a favorable benefit summary, the clinic will place an order by completing their custom order form and faxing/emailing it to us.
The intended grafts will arrive two days before the patient's scheduled service date. We also allow for consignment.
-
Inside the packaging, we provide an application log that can be faxed or emailed to confirm the graft usage.
-
We do not require upfront payment to ship grafts. EOM provides updated statements to the clinic.
